MK Personal Collection - Fine Steel Rolex "Small" Daytona Cosmograph Ref. 6240/39 With Box & Papers. The Rolex Daytona 6240 was released in the mid 1960s. It was the first version of the Rolex chronograph to feature screw-down chronograph buttons and therefore the first to be advertised as waterproof with production of the 6240 from approximate serial number range from 1.2 until 1.7 million. At the time of its release, and indeed today as well, it was considered a great departure from the style of the earlier non-Oyster Daytona models. Today's collectors pay a premium for this model as it is seen as the ultimate standard dial Daytona. This watch was originally owned by Captain Howard Elwell. He purchased this watch at the PX in 1967 while on active duty flying missions into hot zones in Vietnam. He was a helicopter Navy pilot stationed on the USS Randolph 1963-1968 with active duty during the southeast Asian conflict in Vietnam.
