MK Personal Collection The present lot is part of a larger privately held collection and is intended for exhibition purposes only. This is a very rare Steel Rolex "small" Daytona Wristwatch Ref 6239 Circa 1966. This fine water resistant, stainless steel gentleman's wristwatch with a round button chronograph, registers and tachometer. The case is three body, polished and brushed, screwed down case back and crown Serial #1.419.108, super rare and exotic satine silver dial with applied steel baton indexes and tritiumcoated dots, subsidiary "guilloche" dials for the seconds, the 12-hour and 30-minute registers. Tritium coated steel "baton" hands M. Cal 72 B, rhodium plated, 17 jewel straight line lever escapement monometallic-balance, shock absorber, self compensating Brequet balance spring, microstella regulating screws. The dial, case and movement are signed. This watch is all original and in very good condition. The diameter is 39.2mm x 43.59mm including the crown. Bearing a 1.4 million serial number, the present watch is an early example of reference 6239 featuring a small Daytona signature and the correct bezel calibrated to 300 units. During the beginning of the Daytona’s production, Rolex experimented with various dial configurations in order to realize its design for the Cosmograph Daytona. It was a few years later that Rolex definitively printed the "Daytona" designation above the subsidiary register positioned at 6 o'clock, the dial carries the T SWISS T signature at the bottom of the dial to confirm the use of tritium on the dial
