MK Personal Collection The present lot is part of a larger privately held collection and is intended for exhibition purposes only. Rare Rolex Daytona Paul Newman Wristwatch Ref 6241 Circa 1968. The watch features a three piece steel oyster case with a screw down back and push down buttons (Serial # 2.371.XXX). It has a Cal. 722-1, rhodium-plated, 17 jewel Rolex movement with a straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to 3 positions, shock absorber, self-compensating free-sprung Breguet balance spring, microstella regulating screws that is in good running condition. The watch is topped with an original bi-color "Paul Newman" dial with a matte silver and black with applied steel indexes and luminous dots, outer 1/5th seconds scale, guilloché subsidiary dials for the seconds, the 12-hour and 30-minute registers framed with a black enamel bezel. As you can see this watch is in overall minty condition. Ref 6241 was produced in the late 60's from approximately 1966-1969 in relatively small quantities. It is nearly identical to its predecessors, except for its introduction of the acrylic bezel. Collectors at the time of production preferred more classic Daytona models, thus the production of the Paul Newman dial was extremely limited. This has only increased contemporary interest from Rolex connoisseurs, as these dials are much more rare than those on other Cosmograph Daytona models.
