MK Personal Collection Rare Heuer Camaro Panda Dial Valjoux 72 Chronograph Wristwatch Ref 7220 Circa 1968. The watch features a two piece steel over sized case with a screw down waterproof back. It is signed on the inside back cover "Heuer-Leonidas S.A. Ref 7220 Serial # 174.899". It has a super high grade Valjoux Cal.72 manual wind movement with column wheel chronograph, rare PANDA silvered dial with applied black accented polished baton hour markers, black outer 1/5th second divisions with luminous dot five minute markers, further outer tachymetre scale to grey surround, polished pointed baton hands with black and luminous inserts, and red center chronograph hand, as you can see from the photos the watch is in overall very good condition but it does need a good polish and new crystal. The watch has been sitting in a drawer for the last 40 years. The watch was purchased from the original owner and he bought it while in the military (flying missions between the U.S. and West Germany).
Swiss watch named after an American muscle car? Jack Heuer once told us that he named the watch after the Chevy Camaro because he was seeking to strengthen Heuer’s position in the US market by aligning the brand with US motor racing and given the popularity of the Chevy Camaro in the late 1960s and its position as the Pace car at the Indianapolis 500 in 1967 and 69 helped convince Jack that the name was a good fit.
