Rare Rolex Steel Big Red Daytona Cosmograph Wristwatch Ref 6263 Circa 1980. This is a rare Rolex Steel Red Daytona Cosmograph Ref 6263, Circa 1980. This fine men's steel Rolex Daytona Cosmograph with three-body construction case and screwed-down case back, buttons and crown Ref 6263 Serial #6.705.375 measures 45mm x 42mm including crown, tachometer graduation on the steel bezel to 200 units per hour, bi-colored original black and silver with applied steel bâton indexes, luminous dots, outer minute/seconds track and subsidiary dials for the seconds, the 12-hour and 30-minute registers with luminous steel "bâton" hands, Rolex Cal. 727 rhodium plated 17 jewel movement with straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to 3 positions, shock-absorber, self-compensating Breguet balance spring, microstella regulating screws. The dial, case and movement are signed. The watch is in overall excellent/like new condition. Entering into the 1970s after almost a decade since the very first Cosmograph Daytona reference was introduced, Rolex released two new models via the refs. 6263 and 6265. Replacing its previous references, the new models features several upgrades. Most notably, both new references are now fitted with screw-down chronographic pushers to enhance the waterproof capabilities and robustness of the timepiece. While both references were practically the same with just the difference of the bezel, one metallic and one with a black insert, both new models are powered by the upgraded chronometer certified cal. 727. Later examples of the reference further featured an Oyster Triplock 700 crown. Nicknamed the “Big Red” due to its big and vibrant “DAYTONA” inscription above the 12-Hour register, the present timepiece also displays a Mark II bezel insert and Mark II pushers.
