Rare Rolex Steel Cosmograph Sigma Dial Wristwatch Ref 6263/65 Circa 1974. This fine men's steel Rolex Daytona Cosmograph wristwatch with a three-body construction case and screwed-down case back, buttons and crown Serial # 4,137,841, stamped between the lugs 6263 and on the back case 6265. It measures 44.00mm x 41.00mm including the crown. It has a tachometer graduation on the steel bezel to 200 units per hour, bi-colored original black and silver Sigma dial with applied steel bâton indexes, luminous dots, outer minute/seconds track and subsidiary dials for the seconds, the 12-hour and 30-minute registers with luminous steel "bâton" hands ( "Sigma" dial indicating the hour markers are made of white gold), Rolex Cal. 727 rhodium plated 17 jewel movement with straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to 3 positions, shock-absorber, self-compensating Breguet balancespring, Microstella regulating screws. It is attached to an Oyster Rolex steel band, Serial # 271 7835 19, 2 70. The dial, case and movement are all signed.
In 1969, Rolex simultaneously launched references 6263 and 6265, replacing the first Oyster Cosmograph - Model 6240. The Cosmograph Daytona with screw-down pushers was in production for almost 20 years and was offered in either stainless steel or gold.
The present reference 6265 displays a "Sigma" dial which is correct for the serial number, and is distinguished by its impressive state of preservation. The edges are incredibly crisp and sharp to the touch. Furthermore, the watch retains its original pushers, which is a particularly sought after detail. The black dial with silver subdial and silver print gives the watch a somewhat of a stealth look making it the perfect versatile watch that can be worn on its steel bracelet
