Rare Rolex Submariner James Bond Ref 5508 Wristwatch Circa 1962. This is one of the rarest Rolex watches made and it features a no crown guard steel case. This so called James Bond Submariner features a three piece steel case (Serial # 764,567 Ref 5508) that is stamped on the inside back "5508 II.62". It measures 48mm x 42mm including the crown and it features a Cal. 1560, rhodium-plated, "oeil-de-perdrix" decoration Rolex movement with 26 jewels. It has a straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to temperatures and five positions, shock-absorber, self-compensating free-spring Breguet balance-spring and Microstella regulating screws that is in good running condition which is rare. Most 5508 models came with the Cal 1530 movement and this one is topped with a black 100m= 330ft dial with luminous round, triangular and baton indexes, outer minute/seconds divisions and luminous steel skeleton hands.
Being the last of the James Bond “Small Crown” model by Rolex, the reference 5508 is the last of the Submariner to carry the 100m/330ft depth rating.
Although the present watch has a service dial, it retains a very good appearance - a well-preserved dial with silver fonts and a chapter ring. The designation at the very bottom of the dial indicate its manufacture in 1960s and later. Smaller than modern submariners, the reference 5508 is a very versatile watch that has a timeless design and a rich history, which makes it a natural choice for admirers of vintage timepieces.
