MK Personal Collection - Rare Steel Oversized Swissair Aviators Wristwatch By Longines Ref. 6630 A Circa 1957. This is a beautiful and ultra rare oversized wristwatch made by the Longines Watch Company. It features a massive three piece stain steel circular case that measures 47mm without the crown. It is signed on the back "SWISSAIR 91". The case is in overall amazing original condition and it is stamped on the inside back case "Longines 6630 5 48". The watch has a nickel plated Cal 37.9S, 17 jewel oversized manual wind movement Serial # 9’686’372 that is in excellent running condition. Thhe Caliber 37.9 S was exclusively produced for a series of oversized pilots watches that Longines manufactured exclusively for SWISSAIR. According to Longines, the present watch, with case number 91, was invoiced to Swissair on December 20th, 1957, and it belonged to a small group of less than 100 examples made for Swissair pilots and management . The watch is topped with the original black painted 24 hour dial. Scholarship tells us these special watches were given by Swissair’s management to pilots and staff members and were never made available to the public. So rare is the model, the present example is believed to be only one of three known with its oversized 47 mm stainless steel case, large black dial, and inner 24-hour ring. This hardly ever seen watch has become a rare icon from the earliest days of jet travel and were never made available to the public.
