MK Personal Collection The present lot is part of a larger privately held collection and is intended for exhibition purposes only. Personal Rolex James Bond Submariner Wristwatch Ref 6536/1 Circa 1956. This is a very rare Rolex James Bond Submariner Ref 6536/1 C.1956. It features an over sized steel three piece oyster case without crown guards and Rolex crown Ref 6536/1 Serial #306.811 framed with a bidirectional bezel, Cal. 1030, rhodium-plated, 25 jewels Rolex movement with a straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to 5 positions and temperature, shock absorber, self-compensating Breguet balance spring that is in good running condition Serial #693.108. It is topped with a black painted dial with dot indexes and gilt gold hands It is stamped on the inside back cover 6536/1 II.56. It is attached to a steel oyster link Rolex band. The watch is in overall good condition. It does need an overhaul and polish. These early Rolex Submariners are the most desirable models in the watch collecting world. It is engraved on the back "Willam F. Hardy Jr. San Diego Divers Supply 1967". The watch needs a new dial. Like the reference 6538, the Submariner 6536 stands among some of the most important and desirable Rolex models ever produced. Both references are extremely similar, and are both often nicknamed the ‘James Bond,’ although strictly speaking the reference 6536 never appeared in the Bond films. Pre-dating the introduction of crown guards, the reference 6536 is characterized by its thinner profile and small crown.
