MK Personal Collection The present lot is part of a larger privately held collection and is intended for exhibition purposes only. Rolex Oyster Cosmograph Daytona Sigma Dial , Peruvian Air Force Wristwatch Ref 6263 FAP, This is a Rolex Oyster Cosmograph Daytona wristwatch, Ref 6263 manufactured in the 1970's for the "Fuerza Aera del Peru". This fine water resistant, stainless steel gentleman's wristwatch with a round button chronograph, registers tachometer andanti-reflect black bezel graduated to 200 units per hour. It is accompanied by a stainless steel oyster bracelet. The case is in overall good condition with a three body, polished and brushed, screwed down dedicated case back, triplock crown and buttons, tachometer graduation on the bezel which is a blackout enamel with an original bi-coloree black and matte silver with applied steel indexes and tritium dots, "guillochee" subsidiary sunk seconds, 12 hour and 30 minute registers dial, tritium coated steel Baton hands. The movement is a 727 Cal 13", rhodium plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjust to 3 positions, shock absorber, self compensating Brequet balance spring. The dial, case and movement are all signed. The overall condition of the watch is very good. The watch measures 44.69mm x 41.5mm including the crown. Rolex produced watches with “Fuerza Aérea del Perú” engraved on the case back for the Peruvian Air Force. Like other “issued’ Rolex watches, the case serial number was engraved both between the lugs, and inside case back. This exceptional military timepiece is enhanced by the rare “sigma” dial, with the Greek sigma designation flanking the “T SWISS T” signifying the use of white gold hour markers and hands. While the most obvious characteristic of FAP timepieces is the engraving to the case back, there are two other traits that define these watches. One is that the serial number - all or part of it - has to be present on the inside of the case back, thus linking together case body and case back. The other is a much subtler detail, and often lost due to the reasons mentioned above; on the opposite side of the back from where the FAP engraving is, these watches present an extremely lightly engraved military issue number. So light is this engraving that even a gentle polishing would irremediably erase it. Only a meager percentage of FAP watches still retain this number today, and this piece is indeed one of them, the number 454 still totally readable on the back.
