Super Rare Cartier Santos Dumont Platinum Gentleman's Wristwatch Circa 1920's. This model is the first series of so called Santos Dumont made by Cartier in the early teens. It was usually made in 18k yellow gold but a handful of models were made in platinum cases and this is one of them. It has a two-body construction case with 4 screws on the case head. The back of the case has Serial # 18,247 3630 11,731 as well as French dogs head hallmark (platinum). The watch measures 34.70mm X 28.70mm including the crown. It has a white painted dial with painted radial Roman numerals topped with blued steel "Breguet" hands. Cal. 10"', rhodium-plated, "fausses cÙtes" decoration movement with 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, Breguet balance spring that is in good running condition. The dial is signed and the case numbered. The watch is a fine and early example of Cartier's very first "true" wristwatches, e.g. the first wristwatch in the history of watchmaking conceived to be strapped onto a wrist: the "Santos Dumont", designed in 1904 by Louis Cartier for the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont.
