Super Rare Rolex Red Submariner Ref 1680 Wristwatch with Box & Papers Circa 1969. This very fine and rare Rolex Submariner Superlative Chronometer is accompanied with the original fitted box, original Rolex papers and the Submariner guarantee book. The watch features cutout serial numbers. You never see this model so complete it's amazing. The watch comes in a three piece steel oyster case, Ref 1680 Serial # 2.500,190, with an original black Mark IV dial with luminous round, triangular and bâton indexes and luminous "skeleton" hands featuring the famous RED submariner on bottom. It has a Cal. 1570 rhodium-plated 26 jewel movement with a straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to five positions and temperatures, shock-absorber, self-compensating Breguet balance-spring, Microstella regulating screws Serial # D674,XXX this is in excellent running condition. The watch does have a broken crown stem. It's very hard these days to find steel RED Submariners with all original papers, tags and box. This is a very cool watch and a great collectors item.
Introduced in 1969 the reference 1680 is the first Submariner to receive a date window, thus eventually gaining the official name the Submariner Date. The present example is known to be the "Single Red" Submariner among discerning collectors, featuring an eye-catching red line of text on the bold Submariner logo. In addition, the present example can be identified to be a MK IV dial, features being the "660ft=200m" text placing feet in front of the metres, the "open 6" style 6 text, and the middle stroke of "f" placing lower than the stroke of the "t" on the "ft" text. A supremely attractive example, the present watch carries the charisma of Rolex's extensive heritage and a dial that is turning a nice tropical brown.
