Super Rare Tudor Monte Carlo "Home Plate" Chronograph Wristwatch Ref 7032/0 Circa 1970. This fine and very rare men's wristwatch by the Tudor Watch Co is a so called "Monte Carlo Home Plate" chronograph that features a steel three piece case with a screw down waterproof back Ref 7032/0 Serial #709799 that measures 48mm x 43mm including the crown. The watch is stamped on the inside back cover "II.70". It features a Cal. 7734 Tudor movement with rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber, self-compensating flat balance spring that is in good running condition. The watch is topped with an original exotic bi-color dial anthracite and black with luminous indexes, outer 1/5th seconds scale with 5 minute/second red Arabic markers, subsidiary dials for the seconds and the 45-minute register, aperture for the date at 6 o'clock. The watch is in excellent condition and it has no sun damage. It is framed with a tachometer graduation on the steel bezel up to 500 units per hour. The watch is in overall excellent condition.
In 1971, Tudor launched references the 7031 and the 7032, ‘the Oysterdate’, perhaps more affectionately nicknamed and known as the ‘Home plate’ due to the luminous hour markers resembling the home plate of a baseball field. Rather unusually for the time, these were all released in very large 40mm cases with crown guards and screw down pump pushers. They all featured the signature sporty orange accents and unusual pentagonal detailing that made them so recognisable, even in the two short years they were in production. However there were several configurations of the dial and cases.
