MK Personal Collection Very Rare Rolex James Bond Submariner Ref 6205 Wristwatch Circa 1954. This fine and very rare men's Rolex wristwatch is a so called James Bond Submariner. It features a three piece steel case with no crown guards, Ref 6205 Brevet signature on top, Serial # 21,290. The watch measures 47.00mm x 41.00mm including the crown. It has a Cal. A.260 9 3/4''' nickel-finished lever automatic movement, 18 jewels, the black gilt dial with luminous baton and dot numerals, and original straight hands, luminous sweep center seconds "lolly pop" hand with original Pencil gilt hands, in tonneau-shaped water-resistant-type case with revolving black bezel calibrated to 60 units, screw back and large screw down crown. This is a very rare model Type II first shown at the Basel Watch Show in 1953 as a Ref 6204 which was replaced with the present watch. This watch is very cool and rare.
The present reference 6205 is an exceptionally early example – so early in fact, it pre-dates the introduction of the name “Submariner” as its dial does not include the designation. Furthermore, its fitted with extremely rare and highly sought after pencil-style hands. The ref. 6205 would later introduce one of the most distinguishing features on Rolex’s sports model – the Mercedes-style hour hand the watch is extremely well preserved without any previous case polishing or restorations. The definition of the case is exemplary, with fully preserved and crisp lug bevels, and sharp angles to the lug tips. The extraordinary and hardly ever seen “Stainless Steel” engraving found on the caseback is perfectly preserved. The dial has aged beautifully with a pleasing patina uniformly present throughout. The luminous hour markers are original and perfectly intact, along with the original luminous hands – all correctly matching in hue and tone.
