Rare Rolex Monoblocco Round Button Chronograph Wristwatch Ref 4500 Circa 1947 (Serial # 427,170). This men's steel wristwatch features a rare two tone dial two piece case with a screw down waterproof back that is stamped on the inside Ref 4500. It has a Cal. 23 rhodium plated 17 jewel movement with a straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance shock-absorber and self-compensating Breguet balance-spring topped with a highly unusual original silver painted dial with subsidiary dials for the seconds and the 30 minutes register, inner blue telemeter and black tachometer graduations that is in mint condition. It is topped with applied STEEL dart indexes. The overall condition of the watch is excellent. It measures 43.12mm x 39.89mm including the crown.
Reference 4500 is one of the very few Oyster chronograph models produced by Rolex featuring only a 30 minutes register but leaving out the 12 hours counter. This renders the watch a smoother, more subtle and less sporty design, a look that is usually rather found in Patek Philippe's celebrated reference 1463.
